The Smart Reg™

What allows Nemo to be so compact, energy-efficient, and responsive is our patented Smart Reg™ – the first of its kind!

Here’s how it works: A silicone diaphragm inside the Smart Reg™ moves when the diver breathes. A waterproofed sensor measures the diaphragm movement – it then sends an electronic signal which triggers the compressor to pump air at exactly the time and speed that the diver is inhaling.

Nemo pumps only the exact pressure, volume, and flow rate that the diver needs at their particular depth which means it uses just a fraction of the energy of any other underwater breathing system. That’s why we can use smaller pumps, motors, and batteries – bringing you the most portable and affordable underwater breathing system ever!

The Compressor

We’re not just using some off-the-shelf compressor and sticking it in a box. Nemo’s compressor is an entirely custom design. We’ve built it specifically to ensure clean breathing air is supplied as efficiently and in as compact of a package as possible. Our engineers like to call the compressor an “oil-less linear two-cylinder brushless DC diaphragm pump, everyone else calls it “innovative.”

Nemo’s flotation foam gives the unit inherent buoyancy, just enough to float without the flotation tube added on, so you’ll never have to worry about the unit sinking. But always use the flotation tube for times when additional buoyancy, stability, and visibility are desired! (anywhere outside of the pool)

BLU3-nemo-battery-with-type-a-plug

The Battery Pack

Nemo is powered by a custom lithium-ion battery pack that is swappable and rechargeable. The pack and connector are IP67-rated to handle saltwater environments. It’s under 100 Wh, so there are no issues with air travel! A charge-level indicator is located right on the battery itself so that you always know your battery level. Be sure to grab a few extra packs so that you can dive all day long!

Flotation Tube

Designed to give Nemo extra stability and visibility in open-water settings such as the ocean, the flotation tube provides an additional 22 pounds of buoyancy and is brightly colored so that family, friends, and by-passers can easily spot your location while you’re diving. The tube inflates with only 3 to 4 breaths and similarly deflates with ease. Not diving in an open-water setting like an ocean or lake? Nemo will float just fine without the flotation tube!

The Air Hose

Nemo’s 10-foot air hose is the perfect balance of weight, flexibility, and durability. The coils prevent the hose from kinking and make it super easy to handle. The buoyancy of the hose allows excess to float on the surface so that it stays clear of you, the marine environment, and other divers underwater.

BLU3 Backpack

Take Nemo with you to new dive spots around the world with the BLU3 Backpack, designed specifically to make carrying Nemo and the rest of your gear as easy as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions Nemo Phase Out

WHY IS THE NEMO DIVE SYSTEM BEING PHASED OUT?

The Nemo dive system is being phased out to make way for our latest product, the Nomad Mini, which is the result of design updates stemming from users feedback on Nemo and Nomad. We have combined the best features of each to bring you the sweet spot between portability and performance

WHAT ARE THE KEY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE NEMO AND NOMAD MINI?

Nemo and Nomad Mini are both portable, battery-powered dive systems that are similar in size. Nomad Mini has several features that set it apart, including a more user-friendly experience, increased depth rating, and ability to add multiple batteries with the DiveBoost Kit. Air flow performance of Nomad Mini is improved relative to Nemo, but in exchange it does have a shorter expected battery run time of about 35-40 minutes per battery compared to the Nemo's 60-90 minute battery run time.

WHAT ACCESSORIES PURCHASED FOR NEMO ARE COMPATIBLE WITH NOMAD MINI?

Batteries:
Nemo batteries may be used to power Nomad Mini, under certain conditions. When using Nemo batteries (that have a date code of 2023-03-24 or older) to power Nomad Mini, you must also use the DiveBoost Kit and two fully charged Nemo batteries at the same time. One Nemo battery cannot power the Nomad Mini alone as there is a risk it will shut off suddenly while in use.

Flotation Tube and Dry Bag Float:
The Nemo Flotation Tube can be used on Nomad Mini in addition to the Dry Bag Float that comes with Nomad / Nomad Mini.

Backpacks:
If you purchased a Backpack with a Nomad, then it will fit Nomad Mini just fine. When storing Nomad Mini with DiveBoost Kit into the Backpack, there will be a bulge in the top of the backpack but it will zip. A Nomad backpack has a height of 9 inches.
Most backpacks purchased with Nemo are the same dimensions as those that come with Nomad and Nomad Mini, however some older Nemo backpacks have a shorter height. If the height of your backpack is 7 inches, then it will fit Nomad Mini without the DiveBoost Kit but there will be a bulge from the top of the backpack. Nomad Mini with the DiveBoost Kit attached will not fit into a backpack that has a height of 7 inches.

IF I PURCHASE A NEMO, WILL I STILL HAVE OPTIONS FOR SERVICE AND WARRANTY?

Yes, even though Nemo is currently being phased out, we will still offer service and warranty options for our Nemo customers. If you experience any issues with your Nemo, please contact our customer service team for assistance at support@diveblu3.com.

Did my first dive with Nemo this weekend. So far so good. I stayed in a small swimming hole so I could figure out how much weight I needed while wearing my dry suit, wet suit and swim suit. The Nemo seems well thought out and easy to use. Blu3 does an awesome job taking you through an online training course to prepare any level user. The only change I would like to see is the ability to go 15 to 20 feet to fit my needs better. Thanks Blu3.

  2. Ted VanCleave (verified owner)

I took my Nemo out yesterday for the first time. I love it! I just did a shallow easy dive to get familiar with the gear. It worked great. Tons of fun. Handled well. No issues. Your online class is important and very well done. I highly recommend Nemo and I’m looking forward to getting back in the water this weekend! Thx Blu3, you’ve made diving fun again!

  3. John Erick Battie

The Nemo is fantastic. Not usually commented on in reviews, but the training course and videos are very thorough and excellent. Over 40 years ago I was teaching similar material in scuba classes. Use. When you first adjust the straps it feels a bit restrictive but in the water it is perfect. I would recommend the straps be a bit longer. As I am a big guy they were almost too small. When you first try it out you feel the pump supply the air with a brrrrrrrrr sound. But you get used to that quickly and in the marina it is not noticeable at all with all the other sounds around. The air supply is very smooth and enjoyable. I used Nemo when I was cleaning the propeller on my sail boat. I bought Nemo basically for that purpose, instead of gearing up with scuba to clean the propeller off of barnacles and mussels. It surpassed my expectations. I will get the protective cover as I can see a need for it after my first outing with Nemo cleaning the propeller. What a great device. It has been a while since I have been this excited about anything I’ve bought. My wife was impressed with my comments. The battery lasts longer than I expected based the rated time limit. As one of the other reviewer commented, after one use I would definitely buy it again. And I am considering a second for my wife and son. By the way I am 66.

  4. Joshua Dent (verified owner)

The Nemo is absolutely amazing! I’ve been looking at dive hookah systems for a while now. The gas powered options are expensive and bulky and other battery powered models I’ve looked at have some other draw backs. The Nemo checks all the boxes for me and I’m very impressed with this little system. I use mine for metal detecting in the deep trough at my local beaches. I wasn’t sure if 10′ feet was really going to be deep enough to get down to the bottom but, it was even at high tide. Talk about looks at the beach, people that have never seen anything like this watch in wonder as Nemo floats by. Only to be surprised as I surface to get my barring before diving back down. So what’s it like using Nemo? On the inhale you can hear Nemo’s compressor run. It sounds like a little machine gun or maybe the government printing press printing out those stimulus checks…brrrrrrrrr. While inhaling you can feel the air supply having a pulsation feeling as the compressor runs. The stated battery run time from my experience is not limited to 1 hour. I was getting 1 hour 45 minutes on a single battery. From my understanding a scuba tank lasts about 1 hour and a little longer if you control your breathing in comparison. Nemo bridges the gap between snorkeling and scuba. Now that I’ve used my Nemo would I buy it again if I had to do it all over again? Yes, I would and I’m going to be buying my wife one in the near future as well.

I have only used the NEMO in the swimming pool at the YMCA to familiarize myself with it, and it functions perfectly. I then booked a vacation to St. Thomas/St. John, specifically to use the NEMO for shallow water reef diving, but I never made it there. Tornados and a severe weather system shut down the southeast US, stranding me in the Charlotte airport. As it turned out, they couldn’t get me to St. Thomas, and they turned around and flew me back to Pittsburgh. I didn’t get to dive with the NEMO, but I had a lot of experience carrying the unit around the airport for 14 hours. As such, I can offer some advice about traveling with it.
Rather than lug it around in its backpack (after 14 hours, it would have become a load), I purchased an iFLY 18-inch Upright – Fibertech Kids suitcase from Walmart (https://www.walmart.com/ip/iFLY-Hardside-Kids-Fibertech-Luggage-18-Mint/918173153?selected=true). It makes the perfect travel case for the NEMO. The unit fits snuggly into it, and the case is small enough to fit under the seat of your standard airline seat. With the wheels and the telescoping handle, it’s perfect for air travel. I keep the inflatable ring, charging cord, and my neoprene weight belt (without the weights) in the storage side of the case. The snorkel is a little too long to fit, so I pack that in my larger checked suitcase along with the weights, mask, fins, and NEMO backpack. (I’ll use the backpack when transporting the unit to the dive site.)
To secure the unit inside the suitcase so it doesn’t slide around, and so you can sit the case on any side without the unit moving around inside, I installed a web strap with a clip that I pass around the metal tubes lining one side of the suitcase, the tubes through which the retractable handle slides. Using this strap, I can securely fix the unit inside the case, tying it to the metal tubes. (Installing the strap requires cutting two slits in the lining. I applied duct tape to the lining first before cutting the slits to keep the material from fraying.) I also inserted a small piece of foam padding at the end where the NEMO rests against the suitcase and on the other end to keep it from sliding forward. The harness, regulator, and air hose, I coil inside the suitcase beside the unit.
Since the lithium battery is installed in the unit, you could put the NEMO in your checked bag (or check this small kid-sized bag), but the TSA is going to open the bag and take a look at the unit. They will also pull it out and inspect it, swabbing it for explosive residue. I prefer to be there with them when they do this so I can be sure it is strapped in properly when they are finished; therefore, I take it as a carry-on through the TSA checkpoint. It didn’t take them long to do their inspection, and I even alerted them about it when I placed it on the belt. Regardless of whether you say anything or not, they are going to open the bag once it passes through the X-ray machine because, let’s face it, it looks like a bomb in the suitcase! After you get it through the TSA checkpoint, you can always gate-check it if you don’t want to carry it. They forced me to gate-check it on my return flight to Pittsburgh, even though it is tiny and fits under the seat, but I was too tired to argue with them after 14 hours in the airport. I also feel better carrying the unit with me rather than trusting the airline people to be gentle with it as a checked bag. After all, it needs to be functioning properly to deliver air to me when I’m submerged.
I’ll be taking a cruise in April that will stop in Grand Cayman and Cozumel, so I will get to use the NEMO at Eden Rock and Devil’s Grotto on Cayman and another spot I’m familiar with in Cozumel.
I’ve posted pictures of the NEMO inside the suitcase at http://www.waltenbaugh.net/nemo.htm.

    Blu3,
Nemo has been a hit with me, my family and all who have tried it so far. I bought several units to try for a family vacation. This summer. We have so far taken then to a 12′ indoor pool. The aquatics director tried it and loved it, we brought a freind who has never been to the ocean, or snorkled or scuba’d. He watch the very well designed training and we then hooked him up. He jumped in a stayed under for over 40 minutes in one session, playing with my kids. I am a big guy and blow thru a tank scuba diving in 25min. I was able to swim at the bottom of the pool ( with weights) for an hour chasing after coins and pool dive toys with my kids and freind. My wife likes the carry bags, as it holds battery, mask, weight belt, camera, dive socks, suntan lotion ,and you have cool outside straps for fins. We found we can pack two nemos and stuff in 1 x carry on so now we have 1 set aside as as our go bag for trips. We are awaiting to go to the caymans to explore the ocean. Oh btw they are quiet in a pool. With every one else talking and outside noise, the little back ground sound from each unit is not noticed. I just recently took to outdoor pool at out condo in fl with a bunch of seniors. No one complained about noise, and all want to borrow the 2 units I am now keeping in my condo for their kids to play with.

  7. Justin Lammers

Blu3 Nemo has been incredibly valuable in search and recovery of aquatic treasure & lost items. My friends and I have Blu3 Nemos that we use for uncovering prehistoric fossils in central florida. We have found Mammoth bones and Megalodon Shark teeth thanks to Nemo. Nemo is way easier to use than tank based scuba gear and much lighter weight. That has prove very useful in remote areas where we dive. What I love about Nemo is I’m not being dependent on dive shops to fill tanks. Battery lasts at least an hour in my tests even with some newer divers. I simply can charge my batteries at home and go out diving whenever I want! The unit is so compact I even can carry it in kayaks and paddle boards. Excellent rig for Lobstering in the Florida Keys or Bahamas. Also a great rig for teaching kids diving skill basics in the pool. I like that the pump can only be turned on/off by the diver. This unit was designed with safety and quality in mind & it shows. Excellent product for the money and will likely buy more from this company.

  8. Michael Limosani

I originally purchased my nemo dive device during their kickstarter campaign. Since the beginning I have been more than impressed with the company and their team. They had consistently kept backers updated about their product and once it came time to ship boy did Nemo impress. The device far exceeded my expectations, and worked better than I expected. The nemo device is simple to use, with dive times lasting well over an hour. I am very thankful I purchased their buddy pack as it has been extremely fun to dive with friends. These devices are very compact, lightweight, and easy to travel with. I fit both of mine in a carry on bag and transported them on the plane with ease. My first few dives with Nemo absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. I cannot wait to see what team Blu3 has instore in the future. After diving with Nemo vacationing will never be same so many endless possibilities. I cannot wait to share my experience with friends and family in the coming summer months. I highly recommend the nemo device if you are interested in learning to dive or already enjoy diving.

  9. david goldhill

I bought NEMO so I could dive under my boat in the Mediterranean. I had SCUBA kit but found it difficult to get bottles refilled. Then my air cylinder needed to be pressure tested and that proved almost impossible. NEMO is the perfect solution for me. I only need to dive to 2 metres to clean the hull and change anodes. So far I have only used NEMO in a swimming pool. I am looking forward to using it later this year when I take it out to my boat in Greece.

  10. Michael Oliver

    G,day BLU3 ?

Overall I’m happy with my purchase and gave 4 stars, I’ll give 5 stars for a 10 metre hookah I hope to see BLU3 Roll out in the future. See you on the next hunt
