Why Choose Nomad Over Nomad Mini?

The BLU3 Nomad is the go-to option for divers who need more depth and longer dive capabilities. Here’s why it might be the right choice for you:

Reach Greater Depths:
The Nomad’s stronger air pump, powered by a 144 Wh battery, allows divers to go down to 30 feet. This extra depth makes it a great option for boat and sailboat owners who need to work on deeper sections of their hull or keel.
Extended Runtime:
With its larger battery, the Nomad provides longer dive times compared to the Mini, making it ideal for more involved tasks or longer underwater sessions.
Extra Depth for Boat Owners:
For boat and sailboat owners, the additional 15 feet of depth compared to the Mini allows for better access to deeper parts of a vessel, making the Nomad a great tool for maintenance and inspection.
Portability with Power:
At 15 lbs, the Nomad is slightly heavier than the Mini (12 lbs) but still compact enough to transport and store easily on a boat or in tight spaces.

The Nomad is an excellent choice for divers, boat owners, and treasure hunters who need more depth and runtime, making it a versatile tool for underwater projects or exploration.

The Smart Reg™

What allows Nomad to be so compact, energy-efficient, and responsive is our patented Smart Reg™ – the first of its kind!

Here’s how it works: A silicone diaphragm inside the Smart Reg™ moves when the diver breathes. A waterproofed sensor measures the diaphragm movement – it then sends an electronic signal which triggers the compressor to pump air at exactly the time and speed that the diver is inhaling.

The Compressor

With deeper depths, higher pressure and flow rates are required for diving. Our custom compressor designed by our team in Florida, USA has been customized to fit this application. For example – even if you accidentally get saltwater inside your pump, no damage will be done. Just rinse freshwater through. Don’t try that with any other compressors!

Nomad’s flotation shell surrounding the compressor gives the unit inherent buoyancy without the need for a flotation tube. The flotation shell is rotomolded from hard, durable plastic and filled with foam so that it’s unsinkable. That being said, you should use the Dry Bag Float whenever you dive for additional buoyancy, stability, and visibility.

The Battery Pack

Nomad is powered by a custom lithium-ion battery pack that is swappable and rechargeable. The pack and connector are IP67-rated to handle saltwater environments. It’s 144 Wh, so it is allowed in carry-on luggage on most airlines! A charge-level indicator is located right on the battery itself so that you can always check your battery level. Be sure to grab a few extra packs so that you can dive all day long!

Dry Bag Float

The Dry Bag Float provides buoyancy, visibility, and waterproof storage for dry items. It has two air reservoirs that can be inflated by mouth with ease to provide 44 lb of buoyancy. It’s bright color will help notify surrounding boaters of your location. Store dry items inside the waterproof compartment while you enjoy your dive with Nomad.

The Air Hose

Nomad’s 40-foot air hose is the perfect balance of weight, flexibility, and durability. The coils prevent the hose from kinking and make it super easy to handle. Bungee the hose up for easy storage. (Hose is longer than max depth to allow for more scope, making Nomad easier to tow while diving at max depth).

Take Nomad with you to new dive spots around the world with the BLU3  Backpack, designed specifically to make carrying Nomad or Nemo and the rest of your gear as easy as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions About Nomad Diving

DOES NOMAD FLOAT?

Yes! However, for diving offshore, the included Dry Bag Float is strongly recommended for additional buoyancy and visibility.

CAN THE NOMAD FOR HULL CLEANING CLEANING AND PROPELLER INSPECTIONS?

Yes, the Nomad is perfect for tasks like hull cleaning, propeller inspections, and other boat maintenance at depths up to 30 feet.

IS THE NOMAD SUITABLE FOR USE IN SALTWATER ENVIRONMENTS?

Absolutely! The Nomad is designed to perform well in saltwater. We recommend rinsing it thoroughly with fresh water after each use to maintain its performance.

CAN I TRAVEL WITH THE NOMAD ON MY BOAT?

Yes, the Nomad is compact and easy to store on most boats, making it convenient for day trips or extended voyages.

WHAT IS THE WEIGHT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE NOMAD AND NOMAD MINI FOR PORTABILITY ON A BOAT?

The Nomad weighs 15 lbs, while the Nomad Mini weighs 12 lbs. Both are lightweight and easy to store, but the Nomad offers more depth and runtime for tasks requiring additional capability.

WHAT IF NOMAD FLIPS OR GOES UNDERWATER?

As long as the very top of the intake snorkel remains above the water, you will continue to receive fresh air flow from Nomad. The rest of the unit can be submerged. If water does get inside the pump, no damage will be caused. Simply rinse it through with fresh water.

IS NOMAD AIRPLANE FRIENDLY?

Absolutely! The lithium battery used is under the limit and accepted by most airlines in carry-on luggage so that you can travel around the world with Nomad. The Nomad inside its backpack will fit as carry-on luggage, or you can check the unit while bringing the battery as carry-on. Be prepared by bringing your Air Travel Certificate, which you can download here: https://www.diveblu3.com/air-travel-certificates/

DOES THE NOMAD BATTERY LAST LONGER IN SHALLOW WATER?

Yes! If you're using Nomad in shallow waters, you can expect longer run times. And you will be able to coil up the excess hose length neatly so that Nomad stays close by. Note that for diving shallower than 10 feet, you can expect similar or longer run times with Nemo.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN NOMAD DIVING?

WARNING: Nomad uses strong magnets. Magnets may interfere with pacemakers or medical implants. It is advised that persons with pacemakers or medical implants do not use Nomad. Persons with pacemakers or medical implants must stay back at least 2 feet from the Nomad main body at all times.

Just opens up a whole new world of aqua adventure and freedom fits in a backpack that come with the product get a spare battery and your got one hour and one half of tankless diving.

  2. Davin Dhatt

Took my Nomad to the British Virgin Islands recently and it worked exactly as expected. Breathes a bit harder than my normal scuba setup, but not a problem. I was sweating the TSA confiscating my batteries at the airport so I had the air travel certificate all printed out and ready, but through 6 different checkpoints on the way there and back I never got a question!

  3. Marvin D.

Great Unit. I Love my Nomad and would never change against a bottle <3

    • Emily Smith

Hi, Marvin. Thanks for the shout-out! We are so glad to hear that you’re loving your Nomad. Happy diving!

  4. Kasey M

I recently went diving with my friend in Islamorada who had a Nomad, and I was in awe of this phenomenal product. It’s lightweight, easy to use & the maintenance is minimal. Nomad’s compact size also gives you access to more remote diving spots (ones you couldn’t reach with tanks)! When you’re under the water with Nomad, you can glide more freely through the water, making it a unique dive that you cannot achieve while scuba diving. The setup is simple and quick, and we were able to recharge the batteries by boat. My buddy also uses his to clean the bottom of his boat which has been a significant alternative to holding your breath. If you’re a diver, snorkeler or everyday boater, you need to have this product onboard. I can’t emphasize what a difference-maker this system is! I feel that one day it could even change the way we dive forever. I am stoked to go back to the keys during mini season this summer and use Nomad. Thank you BLU3 for inventing such a useful and cool system.

    • Emily Smith

Hi Kasey! We appreciate you taking the time out to review Nomad. It sounds like you and your friend had a successful dive day in Islamorada. Thanks for pointing out the various reasons you love Nomad! We too love the simple setup, as well as the amplified underwater adventure it provides divers with. We are excited to hear such positive feedback from just one dive. You should consider purchasing one so you can continue to indulge in Nomad’s benefits every time you go under the surface.
      Happy diving!

  5. Rowan

If you’re wondering whether to stick with snorkelling, or invest in tanks….don’t do either of those. Get a Nomad, and have the access of scuba with the convenience of snorkelling. Nomad is to snorkelling what the iPhone was to the iPod. A step change in utility, through great design. All backed by a small company, that are very responsive in helping users like me

    • Emily Smith

      Hi Rowan!
We’re glad that our team was able to help you resolve your issue which was caused by using Nomad out of water. As noted in the Owner’s – Users Manual, Nomad needs to remain in water during use, otherwise it may shut off due to overheating.

We encourage all BLU3 divers to fully understand the manual and BLU3 online dive training course prior to the use of our products.
Now that your issue is settled, it’s awesome to know that you’re loving Nomad and benefitting from its features.

At BLU3, we pride ourselves on providing quality service to amazing customers like you! Happy diving.

  6. Will Badger (verified owner)

Thanks, Blu3, for introducing the underwater world to those of us who can’t or don’t want to lug scuba tanks to hard to reach locations! I’m a new Nomad user, but I’m loving the ease and freedom so far. As an amateur treasure hunter, the Nomad has opened up new areas and vistas to me and my detector — I can’t wait for a trip to the Bahamas later this year!

    • Emily Smith

Hi Will! It’s great to hear that you are enjoying your new Nomad! Nomad’s portability and lightweight design allow you to dive from remote areas with ease! Best of luck on your Bahamas treasure hunts. Have a great time!

  7. Jim Gillespie

Perfect for lobster diving in the Florida Keys. I can easily store the BLU3 on my boat and easily get out and get in the water at anytime. Battery life is good and with a spare battery or 2 provides enough time to for a day in the water. As I get older the standard scuba tanks get heavier and I’ve been tank diving less. Can’t wait to get back in the water!

    • Emily Smith

Hey Jim! We are glad to hear that you’re enjoying your Nomad. Nomad’s compact design makes it easy for storing, usage and battery swapping. It’s great that these features are enhancing your dive excursions. Hopefully, you can get back under the water soon!

  8. Nick Clarke

I should add – the air supply hose with the Nomad floats which is an important safety feature as hoses which sink (as some do) easily get caught around rocks.

  9. Nick Clarke

I have often used scuba tanks for diving and also another make of floating hookah air supply but I enjoy diving on the many dive sites accessible from the beaches and bays on the Western Australian coast and both the tanks and other hookah unit are very heavy to carry to the water and over rocks. The Nomad is a fraction of the weight and size due to its clever system of pumping air only as required which means a relatively small battery lasts up to an hour. The unit is very well engineered and built and the batteries can be recharged almost anywhere, with no need for access to a dive shop. I also bought the Spare Air cylinder which can be topped up with a hand pump. My unit was one of the earliest built and I did have some teething problems with occasional difficulty in drawing air. The staff at Blu3 were very helpful and arranged for return and repair. The problem turned out to be just a misaligned O ring but they sent me a brand new replacement unit which I am now looking forward to using. I highly recommend Blu3.

    • Emily Smith

Hi Nick. Thanks for taking the time out to leave this review! We created Nomad to provide divers with all the awesome features you mentioned. And it’s great to know that they are benefitting you during your underwater adventures. Nomad’s lightweight design and portability definitely come in handy when diving in those rural/rocky areas! Also, we are glad to know you received your replacement and hopefully, you’ll be out diving again soon! Thank you for recommending us- we appreciate your business and support.
      Happy diving!

  10. Walter Luce

I have been diving for 40 years. I had always likely the concept of surface supplied air but the options were not reasonable to me and I never owned one until now.. I have both the Nemo and the Nomad. Both systems have been easy and trouble free to use. Battery life has been longer than expected. These units have replaced Scuba diving for me entirely. No more heavy tanks in constant need of filling and maintenance. Goodbye Scuba hello Blu3, where have you been all my life.

    • Emily Smith

Hi Walter! Thank you so much for the glowing review. We too, love the ease and portability with Nemo and Nomad. And we couldn’t be happier that the battery life has surpassed your expectations. Have a great day!
