The History Behind the Lake 2 Ocean Paddle Race
In March 2024, Blake Carmichael, CEO of BLU3, stand-up paddle boarded across the state of Florida over four days with two other paddleboarders, Jake Portwood and Packet Casey. The mission to take on this ambitious adventure was formed with the goal of raising awareness around harmful water discharges coming out of Lake Okeechobee that are devastating saltwater ecosystems to the east and west of the lake.
The team completed the crossing successfully and raised nearly $10,000 with proceeds donated to Captains for Clean Water, a nonprofit organization that has been a leader tackling this issue.
In 2025, this adventure is now a 36-mile paddle race called Lake 2 Ocean. The course is from Port Mayaca to Stuart and the event will take place on April 12 as a fundraiser for a non-profit called Friends of the Everglades.

BLU3 builds battery-powered portable dive systems that are useful for a variety of underwater adventures, from boat hull cleaning to treasure hunting to recreational diving and pool leak detection.
